11+ months to ORD.

people say counting down doesn't really help,

but somehow,

you just can't help it but look at the

calender and sigh every now and then.

so many, many, many things happened since i last posted.

NOV:

1. celebrated gf's birthday,

had an awesome time out there.

2. officially became a SISPEC duty old bird with

the new intake of OOCs at the guardroom.

DEC:

1. gf left for xmas overseas trip,

so i was left bored in s'pore.

2. nice time hanging out with gene and gang

at the tpy home team ktv lounge,

which has somehow became our new hangout.

i didn't know we all love to sing that much.

3. finally bought my electric violin,

so for the next few days i was stuck

in my room,

with the headphone on.

JAN:

1. yes, yes, happy belated new year to you all.

had the traditional countdown ritual with gf

and watched AVATAR.

in 3D! :D

though i have to look like an idiot by

wearing both normal and 3D glasses at the same time.

2. and when it felt like all was lost...

i received my posting and jumped for joy.

as in, literally.

BSLC coming to an end next week.

it has been a fulfilling 2 months journey,
yes.

numerous injuries sustained
(abrasions on neck, shoulder, thighs,
groin, hamstring; blisters on both feet,
with half dangling toe nail which i plucked
it off hastily D:)
but i guess it was all worth it in the end.

never thought i would be able to endure 3 field camps,
no less, in a span of 2 months.

another 14 more weeks (provided no hiccups along the way)
to my much coveted 3 stripes
(and a whole lot of increase in allowance)

but no no no,
no ASLC please.

the 28km RM was really something.
everyone was o.o at the end,
but at least we held our heads high
when we marched back together to coy line.

i think i am going to miss them.

all the nonsense during training,

marching additional rounds around the parade square,
etc etc.

seems like a surreal experience,

my appeal for NTU went through and

i finally got the course that i really wanted.

so i am going to ditch Environmental Engineering(NUS)

for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering(NTU).

so yea,

in the end,

the lion with the bigger mouth triumphed.

i am going to earn loads and loads of money

when i grow up.

loads of them.

enough for me to burn,

wipe my butt,

sneeze into,

and still have bags left over

to burn some more.

and probably enough to eat lavishly without worrying

about when is my next pay coming.

and maybe enough for me to eat that $5.50 set meal

at causeway food court without feeling the pinch.

finally saw the last of tekong.

don't think i'll ever go back there again liao :)

will miss the quantity of food

over at the cookhouse though.

and i got posted to SISPEC.

so objective no. 1 fufilled.

looking forward to the new stuffs

the concert repertoire kind of appealed to me.

i've heard Mozart's oboe concerto
and was enchanted by it.

the hectic's month's about to be over,
and this is the last week running already.

chem spa would be over,
band would be over,

and i would be left with nothing
but tons of revision and assignments
and homework to finish.

suddenly i am feeling quite sad about it.

went for a haircut on sat,
and while waiting in the queue,
sis sms-ed to ask if i want to go for church camp.

i agreed immediately,
but found out that it is held on
the last week of the holidays
and traditionally it is used for my revisions.

and my phone just went flat when
i was just about to sms her to tell
her i've changed my mind.

then meanwhile,
mum didn't bring her phone out too.

and i was stuck in ntuc later for a whole 3 hours.

after much anticipation and
redundant anxiety.

well, i am glad they had their fun.

too stressed, too much homework,

was caught up with
school work and stuffs.

countdown to 2008 was kind of sad for me.

i am starting to miss the life of '07.

surprisingly,
i did fairly okay for the blocks,
considering the miserable amount
of effort being put into the studying.

and i stuttered quite a lot during the
first few weeks of the school term;
couldn't concentrate enough,
and was often left distracted
by many other stuffs.

heng la,
i just started to pick up
the long-lost momentum,
and everything starts to
fall back into place already.

band was alright too;
got quite a bit of stick during the first session,
but that has been settled,
and hope it continues this way la.

most of the jrs are staying,
and together with another
malletist that i hope to get,
i think we have a pretty strong lineup la.

2007- the final salute

fantastic year,
absolutely brilliant.

and if you tell me last year
what's going to happen in 2007,
i would probably shit.

drastic changes in environment,
attitude, mindset, physique.

i couldn't have asked for more.

and firstly,
thank you Lord :)

and so, and so,
2007 began quite nicely,
and i met melson and zw on
semb mrt station to head to aj
for our PAE orientation.

quite excited la,
and if you know me long enough,
you would probably know that
secondary school life was kind of shit for me
(i termed sec sch as a shit-hole.)
so i was actually looking forward to jc,
and all the freedom that was coming
together with it.

so ya,
the first day at aj was quite satisfying,
and for the rest of the orientation
i began to know friends who are later
going to be my best mates :D

there were quite a lot of OG outings
during jan and feb la.

ya lor,
i plan one leh.

and it was immensely satisfying doing all these,
cause all of them were really nice people
and were really sincere going about doing things.

and meanwhile,
i was posted to class 25/07.

i was quite taken aback by the
quality of the people there la.

but surprisingly,
none of them were snobbish or something.
we had good CT and assist. CT reps
and we were actually quite bonded.

embarrasingly,
i thought i was always last in class.

so ya,
i spent quite a lot of time worrying
about myself and my studies though
it was 'only PAE',
cause almost everyone was so chiong,
and always had tutorials miraculously done.

and i am always the one who have only
a quarter of it done or something,
cause i was too demoralised to find from the notes
and was always asking people for help.

i still remember there was once during
econs tutorial where i couldn't understand
a thing and that teacher was like waiting
for an answer from me.

horrible memories of econs. *shudders*

thank goodness i took back geog.

and so on the last few days of PAE
the CT gave everyone a slip of paper
and told us to write about our reflections.

i wrote, dutifully.
and i swore to work doubly
hard from that day onwards.

and FYI, that slip is still with me.

i keep it to remind myself
about my promise.

some people in yj asked why i so chiong.

i think maybe it is because
i have seen the quality in other jcs ba.

and that is quite enough to be my source of motivation.

and oh ya,
there was band.

haha.

actually it all started way back
in dec 2006 and i was over at audrey's,
and she was quite shocked to learn
that i don't take the keys and counts of notes seriously,
though i was already grade 5 at that time.

i was quite embarrased la.

i mean,
even grade 1s can count
quavers and crotchets properly.

i was that bad. really.

and so during cca day
when that girl came approaching me to join band,
i put down my details immediately.

i saw it as a way to improve my music,
and i never regretted it ever since.

i got to know a lot of brilliant musicians,
and began playing percussion.

it was really fun;
my seniors and michael were really helpful
and though i spent hours practising strokes alone
outside the bandroom while they were
having combined band rehearsals,
it was worth it la.

at least i know how to roll now -.-

and i began to appreciate the countings
and even the accidentals lurking around
in every music piece.

musically, i improved quite a lot.

somehow,
i knew God put me in Aj first for a reason.
i think i am beginning to understand it.

and ya,
when the O's results came out,
i was really sad la.

and when the appeal results came back,
i was devastated.

so i didn't bother considering putting other
jcs in my choice and just penned in yj in my 2nd.

cause at least there were phs-ians
and i knew they would help me in the
process of settling in my new school.

i have got quite a bit of culture shock
and initially hated the environment,
the people, the culture.

but as time went by,
i began to appreciate them la,
albeit reluctantly.

i found studying an enjoyable process
with not much peer pressure around,
and kept on with the self-imposed pace.

the teachers were really nice too.

(and ya,
especially to ms ng la,
cause she was really thoughtful and sincere,
and i think if the 3Ps didn't exist,
i would be more slack doing my maths.)

i joined yj band also la.

at first quite reluctant one,
but changed my mind after
some consultation with the aj seniors.

band and pw really took up much of my time,
and together with the ridiculous timetable,
i was often left breathless.

(i am quite guilty of returning home
during the wee hours of the night
and i think mum grew used to it.
but the more she didn't say anything,
the more i became guilty.

subsequently,
i reduced my eating-out days to once
per week and spent more time eating
dinner with family at home.

i thought it would be better that way.)

syf and the immediate concert was really tough,
but pw was tougher,
especially when you have to carry out
others' jobs at one time whilst having a
group leader breathing down your neck
and pacing yourself to hand in the drafts early.

haha, no la,
just joking.

jk was a good leader,
and he did quite a lot of
sai kang for our group,
and i am grateful to him for that.

but no matter what,
there bound to be some troublemakers la.

and i haven't quite gotten over it,
especially since we have put in so much
hard work, and all of these had to be undone

on hindsight,

and i guess it did pay off then.

the last few weeks of the J1 were used for
OP and A Chinese preparations.

and also for the release of promo results.

this year was somewhat a miracle year la.
there were rumours the massive moderation
of marks was partly caused by
the retirement of the principal,
but i didn't cared much la.

late nov and dec were the super-duper holidays.

(i have a nagging suspicion that
i forced myself to enjoy and cherish this xmas season
because i have a feeling that i will get

late nov started really proper,
got to the NUS for some engineering stuffs,
and by december,
the holiday mood was officially there liao :D

though band practices were still on,
i still managed to squueze in quite a lot of
activities in between la.

zoo,

and on top of it,
i finished my holiday homework,
or rather,
the bulk of it early.

but i am still quite worried about my revision.

it was really enjoyable,
adrenalinical, unexpected in a good way.

quite sorry for not having enough

went to church in the morning

as i thought there would be la.

but the crowd came around evening/night.

these were some of the few decos put up
on the road that was blocked for people to roam about.

3. boxing day

went to the art museum in the afternoon,
and went to view some exhibition la.

and could only walk around

went to watch the chipmunks movie

it was quite nice la.

woke up with a splitting headache
but that was quite fine;
it went away after i started eating
breakfast and playing with ah tih

had a fun-filled weekend.

1. zoo outing.

met the gf at amk hub in the morning,
and played mobile worms and
sat together with the ah mas whilst
waiting for her to come.

took 138 to mandai.

when we saw a lot of animals dozing
around in their areas.

2. edvox music school talento V.

this year's concert was way much
better than last year's,
partly because i am arguably a better violinist
compared to a year ago :D

(i've always maintained that joining band
was one of my most brilliant decisions made
in my life, and aha, see.)

so ya lor,
had a rehearsal in the afternoon before
the concert actually started,
and mr foo was like so pissed off
at the way things were functioning,
so in the end,
a lot of people got told off in one way
or another.

anyway,
i had burger king for dinner,
and almost wanted to get a new pair of black socks,
because the ones i was wearing
were kind of soaked.

so ya,
but i didn't la,
so in the end,
i spent the rest of the day in the soaked pair.

the concert itself was quite fine,
but i got too carried away in the last piece,
and actually missed the last few notes

i have just realised i have not
been updating for 2 WHOLE WEEKS!

anyway,
life IS still hectic,
but i'm settling in quite well;
starting to enjoy myself there liao.

1. i have failed my first maths test!
AH, I GOT A FREAKIN' 5/18!

2. chemistry is still very fun.
i love redox.
i love atomic structures.
i love quantum numbers, shells, subshells,
and the little things called orbitals.

in conclusion,
chemistry has never been as fun as this.

3. i love sitting with the ex-PHS people
on the steps every morning,
basically talking nothing but cock.

SYF prelude

of course,
i have seen all of this coming.

we all know how McClaren and
Curbishley thwarted their former
mentor Ferguson with wins
over Manchester United
with their ex-clubs Boro and Charlton
respectively.

it was another typical tale of
the master versus the protege,
and the response was overwhelming.

obviously they didn't read the script;
they beat their former maestro,
fair and square.

it was magnificent;
downright excellent.

the newspapers lauded at their accomplishments,
with their successful attempts
at outwitting their former guru.

me joining symphonic band was
a surprising feat-
i was not even thinking of joining band
in the first aj intake;
my mind was fixed on tennis instead.

but aiyah,
we all knew how the tennis trials went-
the balls flew everywhere,
and i did not make it to the team.

a few moments later,
i was lingering around in the hall,
when a gal wearing black approached me:
'interested in music?'

and this was how it started.

me joining percussion section isn't
another planned event too.
it was when i couldn't buzz the way
the conductor wanted me to,
and i had no other choice but to
ask to join the percussion section.

and for once,
i made a right decision.

there were 7 percussionists before
i joined their crew.
they were nice;
outrageously entertaining.

come'on,
we were the only section
which get to consume good stuff
almost every practice,
courtesy of Jessica :)

anyway,
i learnt my percussion basics under each of them:

Daowei- almost everything, correcting of flaws
Arifa- basic strokings
Jessica, Yi Hui- mellots, misc instruments, strokings
Edward- technique, strokings
Michael- drum set, strokings
Xin Yao- misc instruments

and when i was supposed to choose
my cca in yj,
i didn't want to join band,
because i was afraid of getting too emo
during practices and having
the mentality of comparing AJB and YJB constantly.

but it was Daowei who encouraged me
to join back band,
and i decided to give it another go.

joining back band was alright,
i got to enjoy playing instruments again.

it was the thought of facing AJB
in the SYF that made me feel sick.

i don't know how would it feel like,
to compete against your former
mentors in such a big competition.

all these are starting to become a
story weaved out from another
cheap taiwanese drama script.
