world cup prelude

we guys have already adopted
our beaus for the
upcoming world cup.

zhenyu still sticks to his
all-time favourite Netherlands,
with Italy coming in second,
if Holland ever fails to be
successful in this competition.

Jack and Zhiwei chose Italy,
while i prefer the unfancied
Portugal and England.

Brazil

Unsurprisingly,
nobody chose Brazil as their fav.

"aiyah.
they always win one.
sian already."

i agree.
the 5-times world champs sure have
the potential to defend their
trophy this summer.

more superstars are also emerging to
add on to the famous 4'R's.

Robinho, Ricardhino, Ronaldo, Ronaldhino;
the list goes on.
the ageing Rivaldo would be proud.

however,
all these were not appealing to us.
maybe we were sick of them
winning everytime.

even the copa america 2004
was won by their team
of second-stringers.

and that is enough to make
any football fan grumble, "wa lao eh."

but even i can't stand
eating chicken rice everyday.
i'll soon get sick of it.

Italy

it seemed that Italy is
the hot favourite among us,
and it is not difficult to see why.

with quality oozing from the goalkeeper
to the midfielders, and to the forwards,
they can virtually beat anyone on their day.

not many countries can boast being
able to field 2 world-class
playmakers at the same time,
mind you.

however,
their team unity still
remains in doubt.
this always happens when a team
is filled with too much star players;
fighting for positions will occur.

Portugal

But why Portugal for me?
don't ask me why,
i do not know either.

however,
i am sure that Portugal
will be no pushovers.

after all,
they were the runner-ups of Euro 2004.
(and i like the players names too,
lol.
Maniche, Costinha, Valente, Cristiano.
wah, nice.)

FYI,
Brazil's native language is Portuguese,
and that gotta earn Portugal some respect.

i like their flexibility too.
their formations are interchangeable.
4-2-3-1? 4-3-3? 4-1-3-2?
no problem.

with Barcelona playmaker Deco
pulling the strings in midfield,
and wingers Ronaldo and Simao
charging down the flanks,
Portugal look unstoppable.

well,
enough of crapping already.

just remember to stock up on
your food rations, folks.
all of you will need lots of
junk food during this month,
in the wee hours of the morning.

and adjust your bio-clock too,
Germany's time zone is very
different from Singapore's.

act quickly,
time is running out.
the fever will start very soon.
